One in five of Queensland's most affordable suburbs are located in the Rockhampton Government Area, new research by PRD Nationwide has revealed.

Charleville, Tara and Gayndah were listed as the top three, all registering a median house price under $155,000.

Aaron Maskrey, PRD Nationwide Queensland research manager said, "Due to the nature of demand, most of the top 10 most affordable suburbs in Queensland are situated in rural Queensland." Maskrey added that the areas represented a solid choice for individuals looking for an affordable investment option.

According the report each of the suburbs had median prices ranging from $120,000 to $216,750 and achieved annual median price growth, between 17.2% to 25.8% for the year ending June 2009. Tara recorded the notable 25.8% price jump, leaping from $120,000 in June 2008 to $151,000 in June 2009 based on 24 house sales during the period.

"Potential gems exist for the keen investor who has been priced out of metropolitan and coastal areas if they are willing to invest further west," continued Maskery.
